Generosity is a posture of our life.
The early church fathers often reminded believers that generosity is at the heart of following Jesus, because we serve a God who gives lavishly and freely.
St. John Chrysostom:
“The rich man is not one who has much, but one who gives much. For what he gives away remains his forever.”
When we live open-handedly, we reflect the character of our generous God, who has held nothing back from us in Christ.
Most Sunday mornings we pray this liturgy together, hoping our hearts will be shaped not only to give, but to live with generosity in all of life.
MCC Generosity liturgy
Father you are an abundant giver.
There is nothing I have that you have not given me.
The way of your kingdom is the way of generosity.
Your kingdom has come to me so that it might come through me to others.
Freely have I received; freely I give.
Help us to honour you with our resources;
Free us from the deceit of riches;
lead us on the path of generosity;
For your glory,
for our good,
and for the the sake of others.
Amen
